Description

Easy one-pan Chicken Sausage, Broccoli, and Orzo Skillet cooked in a savory broth and finished with melty parmesan cheese for a quick and comforting meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Large drizzle of olive oil
  • 8 ounces chicken sausage, cut into 1/4–1/2 inch slices
  • 2–3 cups broccoli, roughly chopped
  • Kosher salt
  • Ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup shredded parmesan cheese

Instructions

1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add a generous drizzle of olive oil. Add sliced chicken sausage and cook until browned on both sides, about 4–5 minutes total.

2. Add the broccoli to the skillet and season with a large pinch of salt and black pepper. Cook for about 5 minutes until bright green and slightly tender.

3. Stir in the minced garlic and orzo, mixing everything together and cooking for about 1 minute until fragrant.

4. Pour in the chicken broth and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10–15 minutes until the orzo is tender and liquid is mostly absorbed.

5. Remove from heat, stir in parmesan cheese until melted and creamy, then serve immediately with extra parmesan if desired.

Notes

Stir occasionally while simmering to prevent the orzo from sticking.

You can swap chicken sausage for turkey sausage or plant-based sausage if preferred.

Add a squeeze of lemon at the end for extra brightness.

For a creamier texture, add a splash of heavy cream with the parmesan.
