Description
Crispy fried shrimp tossed in sweet and spicy hot honey, perfect as a bold appetizer or main dish.
Ingredients
- 1 pound large shrimp, thawed, peeled, deveined, tail-on
- 1 cup (245 g) buttermilk
- 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 1/2 cup (170 g) hot honey
- Chopped parsley, for garnish
Instructions
1. Add shrimp to a bowl and pour buttermilk over them. Let marinate for 15 minutes.
2. In another bowl, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne.
3. Remove shrimp from buttermilk, let excess drip off, and coat in the seasoned flour mixture.
4. Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a pot to 350°F.
5. Fry shrimp in small batches for 2-3 minutes until golden and crispy.
6. Transfer shrimp to a lined baking sheet and allow oil to return to temperature between batches.
7. Drizzle hot honey over the fried shrimp, garnish with parsley, and serve immediately.
Notes
Do not overcrowd the pot while frying to keep shrimp crispy.
Maintain consistent oil temperature for best results.
Adjust cayenne pepper for preferred spice level.
